Board Membership

Board members in each category of membership will serve two-year terms. The terms will be staggered when the initial Board is constituted. Board members will be eligible once for re-election for a total of four years of service. The Board will have no less than nine seats and no more than 19 seats, including officers. The Board will meet no less than two times per year.

  • Organizing Members: Each organization in this category will hold up to three seats on the Board. These members will hold a majority of seats on the Board.
  • Sustaining Members: These members will hold up to five seats on the Board. Organizations holding these seats will be determined by all sustaining member organizations and may rotate as determined by the organizations in this category.
  • Associate Members: These members will hold up to four seats on the Board. Organizations holding these seats will be determined by all associate member organizations and may rotate as determined by all the organizations in this category.

Board Committees

  • Nominations Committee: A Nominations Committee will be formed annually, with representatives from all three categories of members, for the purpose of recommending a slate of officers to the full Board.
  • Executive Committee: The Executive Committee consists of the officers (voting) and Executive Director (non-voting) of the ABC. The Executive Committee will have the authority to act on behalf of the Board when the Board is not in session.
  • Other Committees: as determined by the Board.

Leadership

The officers of the ABC consist of: Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. The terms are one-year and are elected annually by the members of the Board. Officers must be current members of the Board. The chief staff executive and/or chief elected officer of the organizing member organizations will be invited to attend Board meetings as an observer, unless that person has been designated by their organization as a member of the Board.

Elections

Elections will be held once a year, at the fall Society for Neuroscience meeting.
